ABOUT REV. Dr. Amina Mcintyre
Rev. Amina S. McIntyre (Artist. Scholar. Minister) is a practical theologian and playwright. An Atlanta native, she is the only daughter (second of three children) of Sgt. Victor B. McIntyre and Rev. Lavonia K. McIntyre. One of incredible thirst for knowledge, she took many opportunities including studying in France for a semester with the Atlanta Public Schools Intensive Foreign Language Program and graduating in the top 10% of her class at Benjamin E. Mays High School in Atlanta, GA. From there, Rev. McIntyre went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, a MA in African American and African Diaspora Studies from Indiana University, Bloomington in Bloomington, Indiana, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky and Master of Theological Studies from Emory University in Atlanta, GA, and Master of Arts in Religion from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.
Accepting her call into the ministry in 2008, Rev. McIntyre is an ordained Elder in Full Connection in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and has previously been the Georgia North Region Director of Specialized Ministries for Arts and Drama. She supported many Georgia North Region Conference Youth and Young Adult Retreats and developed Young Adult Tracks for Christian Leadership School 2012-2016. She previously pastored at St. Lewis CME Church in Sparta, GA. Rev. McIntyre was elected and served as the 2016-2021 Connectional Young Adult Ministry (CYAM) President during which time she a member of in Ecumenical bodies member of Churches Uniting in Christ, the World Methodist Council Young Adult Task Force, and The Pan Methodist Commission. She served as Worship Coordinator for CYYAC24, Program Coordinator for and is the Creative Worship Consultant for the Reimagining Children’s Ministry Grant.
Rev. McIntyre’s interest in ministry lead her chaplaincy and minister education. She completed her first unit of Clinical Pastoral Education at Crossroad Community Ministries with the Training and Counseling Center @ St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Atlanta, GA in 2012. She was a Chaplain Resident with the Seton Healthcare Family in Austin, TX in 2017-2018, completing 3 additional units. Rev. McIntyre has served as Associate Chaplain PRN at Ascension St. Thomas hospitals in Nashville, TN and PRN Chaplain at University of Louisville Jewish Hospital. She is currently pursing her Association of Professional Chaplains Board Chaplaincy Certification (BCC).
One who loves to learn, Rev. McIntyre has also taught a variety of classes, workshops, and has presented on conference panels. She has taught at Vanderbilt University, Emory University, Pittsburg Theological Seminary, and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. She has presented at conferences including the American Academy of Religion, Society of Pastoral Theology, She has also served as Co-Facilitator for several ministry cohorts through Created to Create, The Ministry Collaborative a subsidiary of Macedonian Ministries, and the Sun-Walking Fellowship. Rev. McIntyre has published in the American Journal of Play, and in the anthology, Imagination in an Age of Crisis: Soundings from the Arts and Theology.
As a playwright, Rev. McIntyre has had productions and readings of her plays with Actors Express, Out of Hand Theatre, Lenoir-Rhyne University, 7 Stages Atlanta, Westside Community CME Church, Atlanta History Museum (permanent “Gatheround” Exhibit), Oakland Cemetery, and Théâtre du Rêve. She was the recipient of a 2013-2014 City of Atlanta Office of Cultural Affairs Individual Artist Grant to write about the Atlanta homeless “Tramp Trail”, a Playwriting Apprentice in the Horizon Theatre 2014-2015 Apprenticeship Company, the 2014-2016 Atlanta Region Young Ambassador for the Dramatist’s Guild, and the 2015 Ethel Woolson Lab Recipient through Working Title Playwrights, 2022 Taurean Blaque Playwright Award, and the 2025 Tanne Foundation Award. Rev. McIntyre was the Managing Director of Karibu Performing Art, LLC, a small theatre company in Atlanta, GA. She is a regularly commissioned playwright with Her play, On The Third Day, was produced at the Vanguard Repertory Theatre in Atlanta, GA in August 2018.
She is a Ph.D Candidate of Religion at Vanderbilt University, completing her dissertation entitledReclaiming Imagining: Engaging Care Receivers’ Imagination through Artistic Process. Her ministry led her to release the book 30 Days of Peace and Praise, a devotional guide with daily activities, and plays Living Rightand The Angels Academy Trilogy. She is the co-Founder of Hush Harbor Lab and in 2021 Emerging Playwright Cohort with the Horizon Theatre Black Women Speak Project. She is currently the Assistant Director of the Sun Walking Fellowship Grant and Visiting Assistant Professor of Practical Theology at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, and currently on the staff at Westside CME Church as Clergy in Residence, and Clergy in Residence at Westside Community CME Church.
